About ASI
Adam Smith International (ASI) is a global advisory company. Its work is aimed at three outcomes: stronger economies, more stable societies and more effective government. It pursues them country by country, working closely with local partners.
ASI's clients include governments, international organisations, companies and foundations. They engage ASI to develop strategy and to design, deliver and evaluate programs that address major economic and governance challenges.
For almost thirty years, ASI has worked in nearly 100 countries, alongside governments, the private sector and civil society, in economies at every stage of development. Much of that work has been in fragile and conflict-affected settings. There, ASI accepts a high level of risk in order to deliver results that last.
How ASI works
A core team of staff and technical specialists, based in offices around the world, oversees delivery and holds it to high standards of quality and ethics. Around that core sits a global network of experts, brought in where and when their experience is needed.
Areas of work
Governance and state-building. Helping governments become effective, efficient and accountable to the public, from education systems to the design of public institutions.
Public financial management. Fairer tax collection, better use of public money and sustained action against corruption, so that citizens can trust how government treats every part of society.
Economic transformation. Investment, trade, employment and the growth of commercial agriculture, giving sectors room to expand and local businesses room to grow.
Infrastructure. Water, sanitation, transport, telecommunications and electricity, including renewable energy and adaptation to climate change.
Extractives. Fair mining laws, environmental protection, consultation on oil, gas and mining projects, and a genuine share of the returns for the communities involved.
Justice, security and peacebuilding. Basic safety and security, from community policing to the reintegration of former insurgents into civilian life after conflict.
Ownership and standards
ASI is owned and run by its employees. It measures its performance against a triple bottom line of social, environmental and financial results. It is a certified B Corp and a participant in the UN Global Compact, which sets standards on human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption.

ASI and RRDA
The Raparin Regional Development Agency operates under the legal mandate of the Foundation. Its establishment had support from the UK Government and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, working with Adam Smith International.
